CARACAS, Venezuela (AFP): Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez on Sunday warned Venezuela could expropriate milk processing plants based here and owned by Italy's Parmalat and Swiss-owned Nestle.
"We are facing an economic conspiracy and we are forced to act to defend national security," Chavez added.
Venezuela for months has been rocked by shortages of basic foods such as milk, eggs, sugar, beef, chicken and wheat flour. Milk is among the products that has faced the worst supply woes.
- Is Chavez  afraid of fair competition in the market? What do you think about this?

The oil refinery is planed to be a 10'000 barrel-a-day refinery. Antigua closed its 35'000-a-day refinery because losing money! You don't have to be a genius to see, that there is something wrong with the promises of money. The tourisme industry will loose jobs, if the oilrefinery is being built. So, what about these promises of building new jobs???

The world practice shows that the processing of less than 4 million tons a year for the Oil Refinery is unprofitable. Accordingly, the project will never pay off.

- That means If you want the Dominica Oil Refinery didn’t give your only losses, this refinery should refine not less then 80 000 barrels of oil. Per Day!

Dominica is depending too much from the outside, the US or Venezuela, Europe or China...it is time, that we start using the money we get to invest into things, which will prosper in future and that Dominica will be able to stand by itself. The aim is not to stay a beggar, but to get independent!!! I know, not easy at all. But why not investing into an alternative power solution. It doesn't has to be the expensive Geothermal option. We have sun and wind all year through! Dominica could become a pilot project in alternativ power resources and it would shine as a unique island and keep its logo as the nature island. We would even be able to export power! Oil is not the future, at least not the longterm one. The oil resources are about to be done and oil will get more and more expensive and the ones who have it, will be the ones who rule....do we have to go down that road? We still have the privilige to choose now, but if we go deeper into dept, we wont have that choice anymore!
NOT to mention the risk we have with an oil refinery on the island. One little accident and we will suffer for a long, long time. I have nothing against taking risks, as long as it is not jeopardizing my life, but I dont want to take that risk!
What about the concern of a military alliance agains USA, which Chavez has mentioned. Well, Dominica doesn't has a army, but isn't its location, right in between Venezuela and the States, ideal for a venezuelan military base? With a proper airport and oil? If somebody is able to start a war against the States, than Mr Chavez. Do we want to be in middle of it? NO!
An idea for everybody: start buying dominican products, instead of the imported ones. I know, there are not so many products, but if we invest into these products, and keep the money in the state, there will be more coming eventually. Why is everybody going to KFC to get chicken? Why not buying the chicken at a small shop right next to KFC? Because they dont have a drive through? Are Dominicans getting so lazy? Fast Food, Fast Money....both not healthy!

...this talk of military alliance is nothing short of madness. With his vast oil reserves Chavez can afford to tweak the nose of Leviathan. Dominica has no such luxury. Do we really want to make it more difficult for our students to get visas to study in the U.S., or our people to get work authorization there?

Venezuela's top food company has accused troops of illegally seizing more than 500 tonnes of food from its trucks as part of President Hugo Chavez's campaign to stem shortages
.
Some questions:
- Have the Americans arrested dominikas bananas at any time?
- When Chavez will be force your farmers to reduce the prices of bananas and prohibit their sale offshore, you too will not be have anything against?
Chavez have too many problems. Dominica is ready to help Hugo Chavez? http://www.dominica-oil.com/survey/survey.php?sid=30

Well to tell you the truth I have nothing against Chavez. I think he has good intentions for the Caribbean people. I really believe ALBA can work for us as we are so dependent on the US and they really don’t do much for us. See how they fight us down in the banana industries. It is time we start to make decisions for ourselves. I say let us give ALBA a chance.
